Position Summary

The Project Manager will serve in both a leadership and support role for the development of a broad scope of industrial/retail construction projects throughout the United States. This position will be involved with every aspect of the construction process from determining feasibility through completion. This individual will report to the Vice President of Construction and have direct or support responsibilities for oversight of engineers, architects and other consultants, budgeting, contract administration, construction administration, and scheduling. This position will be based in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Direct Responsibilities

  • Preliminary site evaluation/analysis of MDT retail and industrial projects.
  • Oversee site entitlement and due diligence efforts for multiple construction projects across the MDT portfolio.
  • Manage all aspects of the due diligence process including but not limited to feasibility studies, geotechnical evaluations, environmental assessments, budgets, and surveys.
  • Lead and manage 3rd party engineers, architects and other consultants in guiding each project through the governmental approvals process to obtain all permits/approvals required for a project.
  • Manage design consultants in engineering a project within the parameters of the approved site plan, budget, owner criteria, and local codes.

Support Responsibilities (In conjunction with Vice President of Construction)

  • Participate in the development of project scope and budget.
  • Manage all dates and processes within a project to ensure the project progresses as anticipated including but not limited to, critical dates within development agreements, leases, purchase agreements, permitting and construction.
  • Manage the bidding process with the design team and approved general contractors.
  • Communicate project status to project participants and stakeholders throughout the project to ensure risks are quantified and critical milestones are met.


  • Bachelor of Science in engineering, project management, real estate development, or construction administration. Strong preference for civil engineering background (PE preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction, development, or civil engineering.
  • Experience working in development or construction as an owner’s representative of real estate projects preferred.
  • Proficiency in AUTOCAD, SITEOPS, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and Primavera scheduling software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects occurring simultaneously. This individual will require demonstrated abilities to plan, organize, and administer responsibilities to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in navigating entitlements from a wide range of public jurisdictions.
  • Strong communication skills to interface with both MDT leadership, as well as MDT clients.
